Let’s Go To The Beach

Wisconsin Water Boudoir_

When you hear the word “boudoir” you think lingerie and a bed behind closed doors. Nope! We LOVE to go to the beach on Lake Michigan. We go early in the morning while the sun comes up over the beach and before there are tons of people. We pick a quiet little dune and shoot til out hearts desire.

Some day …

Wisconsin Boudoir - Just Do It

I’ve been thinking about the phrase “some day” a lot lately. As in: “I’m gonna do that some day, when I …”

Have more money
Lose some weight
Grow my hair out
Have the time
Get my shit together
Get braver

Why is it that we manage to have money for other people, but not for ourselves? Why do we think we have to lose weight to do ANYTHING? What if I look better with short hair? Time is like money: we make time for others, why not for ourselves? Getting your shit together is a never ending process, girlie and getting brave is a matter of perception.

Now I find myself at the age of 60 having NOT done so many things(and not being ABLE to do others). “Some day” has turned into “NEVER” and I’ll never get those days or opportunities back.

I have missed out on so many amazing things in my life but the best things I’ve done, I’ve done scared.
Make better choices than I did. Just do it.

The Biggest Myths About Boudoir

Christmas in July Boudoir

One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves about boudoir is that we’re too fat or that we don’t have a “boudoir” body.

Bullshit. Wanna know how to have a “boudoir” body? Make an appointment and have your photos taken. Poof! You have a “boudoir” body.

MYTH: Only certain bodies look good in front of the camera. FACT: You don’t need to lose weight. Embracing your body and learning to love yourself the way your are is what we should all be trying to do. While I smooth your skin and remove acne or make tanning lines less noticeable, I DON’T Photoshop every single thing you hate about yourself. I DO put you in flattering poses and use good lighting. You never need to change a single thing about yourself and having your photos taken is a wonderful way to show YOU how gorgeous you truly are.

MYTH: Boudoir is porn and they’re just raunchy photos. FACT: It’s so much more than that. Of course, we can get just as down and dirty as you want, but ONLY if you want. Boudoir is an experience that teaches body empowerment and celebrating the skin you’re in.

MYTH: Boudoir photography is only for special occasions. FACT: You don’t have to do boudoir as a gift to your partner. Do it for yourself! It’s all about self-worth and investing in YOU. A boudoir shoot will show you how beautiful you really are.

MYTH: Your photos will end up on the Internet. FACT: You don’t have to tell anyone or show anyone your photos if you’re not comfortable with it. We keep your session and your photos confidential. Nobody will see them if you don’t want them to. It can be private, or you can share it! The choice is yours.

MYTH: Only women have boudoir photos taken. FACT: Any person should definitely look into boudoir. ALL bodies are loved!

Is It Spring or NOT?

Wisconsin Boudoir Photography

It’s cold and overcast and I’m beginning to wonder if spring will EVER get here.

Warm weather means taking your photos outside, whether on the studio patio or one of our sweet little spots in the yard or even on location at Lake Michigan or A beautiful falls area in Shawano County. But if the outside weather isn’t accommodating, we’ll take your boudoir photos in the studio!

It’s been over six months and I am going CRAZY for wanting to take some beautiful photos!

The books are OPEN and we’re taking appointments for June 2021. Read all about how it works and let’s roll, dolls.

Just Because

Sometimes you do something “just because”. This past Friday, Pru and I decided to do a shoot because it was a gorgeous night, because we hadn’t spent any time together lately, just because we need time for ourselves.

Not only is Prudence an experienced HMUA extraordinaire, with an up and coming salon in Seymour, WI, she’s also my dear friend, one of my biggest cheerleaders and has the biggest heart EVER.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed or down on myself, she’s always there to kick me in the ass and get me back on track. I am lucky and blessed to have her in my corner.

Ms A’s Boudoir Session(s)

JLReis Photography’s goal to make YOU see your own, real beauty. I want to tell YOUR story. I want to show you who you are. I want to share your truth. MsA shares her boudoir experience below.

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

“I was so nervous about these pictures. I simply didn’t know what to expect; Jackee was warm and inviting and instantly made me feel much more at ease.” I have to give MsA a big shout out, she walked in to the studio and immediately put herself into Prudence’s capable hands and was down for whatever we had in mind. She says, “I was definitely put at ease from the moment I met you.”

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

Nerves ALWAYS play a part in any photo shoot. “Definitely!” says MsA. “I even contemplated several glasses of wine but I didn’t want that glassy look, haha.”

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

While I’m nervous at every reveal, I’m more nervous that my client won’t see what I saw. When I asked what MsA felt, she said, “Several different emotions from not being able to see how beautiful I looked in the pictures to realizing that I AM beautiful. Jackee pointed out so many times that beauty is the focus – not the flaws.” My heart just burst. MsA IS beautiful.

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

My idea of a good time is not always someone else’s idea of a good time, lol, but this time the client felt the same way I did! “My favorite part of the experience was] Driving in a van to some unknown place with two people I had never met!” Pru and I try to make our clients laugh and to feel comfortable, it makes me happy that MsA felt that. “Jackee and Pru have such a fun time together.”

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

MsA says if you’re thinking about having a boudoir session, do it! “Just jump right in a get your feet wet!”

Ashwaubenon Boudoir Photography

“I’ve recommended her to many people! I tell them that she not only takes great pictures, but that she instantly puts you at ease and makes you put aside your fear.”

This is what I want to do in a nutshell. I want you to stop being afraid and to see your own beauty. I want to give you memories that you can look back on for the rest of your life. Boudoir Photographer in Wisconsin

Green Bay Boudoir Photographer

You know that show on television “Murder Chose Me”? Boudoir photography chose ME. Coming from a place that nearly all women come from – that my body isn’t perfect – my biggest goal is to make women feel beautiful and to document that beauty so that they an look back at it on any day and SEE the beauty that is in them. Just as they are.

Today I’m answering some questions from the women in my group about why shooting boudoir is my dream job, and what happens during a session with JLReis Boudoir Photography.

How do you show your work to potential clients?

I shoot with models on a regular basis in order to try out new ideas or props and I am lucky enough to occasionally get a client who gives me rights to use their photos publicly because they’re proud and excited about them and want to show them off.

I make it very clear to my clients that 1) They NEVER have to take their clothes off and 2) NO ONE will see their photos without their permission. Your photos go from my camera to my work machine to my studio machine to your eyes. I don’t do online galleries and all image reveals are in person. Your images are printed by reliable and bonded print houses in Grand Rapids MI or St. Louis, MO. There is never a chance that some goomer from Sam’s Club or Walgreen’s will get a look at you in your dainties.

How is boudoir different from other types of shoots?

Boudoir, or glamour even, has the ability to make a woman remember every good feeling she’s ever had about herself, more so than any other kind of photography. Graduation photos and wedding photos, your most typical professional photo sessions, just don’t compare with seeing yourself in a beautiful dress or your favorite lingerie. Boudoir/glamour photography is really all about the client.

I shoot women from 18 all the way up to their 50’s, all shapes and sizes and not one of them has ever not looked at their photos and had their mouth drop open.

All women LOVE to get dressed up and look gorgeous; I use Halloween as an example all the time. Just look at how women dress on Halloween, you see a lot more sexy outfits than scary ones. Boudoir/glamour is for every woman that wants to feels beautiful and really, what woman doesn’t?

WHY are you a boudoir photographer?

To make women love themselves. It’s as simple as that. If you’re having a crap day and you feel like you look like shit, taking out your photos and remembering how you felt the day you had them taken can lift your spirits immediately.

Do I think a woman’s looks are the most important thing in their lives. Of course not. A good heart is much more important, but despite all the hoohah to the contrary in media, how a woman think she looks definitely plays a part in how she feels in other areas of her life.

What do you love about boudoir photography?

Getting it through a woman’s head that she really IS beautiful. EVERY woman is beautiful and I’ve taken on the job of bringing that beauty from inside them to the outside.

Because of the intimate content, do you advertise differently?

I actually shoot very little that can’t be shown publicly, but I do have separate Facebook pages for my boudoir/glamour sessions and my senior sessions. High school seniors are my other love – they, boys AND girls, have many of the same insecurities that adult women do and photography does wonders to help them see that they are someone more than what they’ve been during their high school career.

Do you ever shoot nudes?

I haven’t, but there’s always a first time.

What do you do to help your clients relax during their session?

I am a natural clown and when I was a kid I wanted to be a stand up comedian. I try and have a short half hour meeting with a new client before the day of their shoot. We talk about what they want to wear, how they want their hair done, their favorite parts of their body … that way they don’t walk in the door and hear: “Hi! Take your clothes off!”

I reassure them that they don’t have to worry about posing and that I will make them look their best.

Once we start shooting, I never stop talking. NEVER. It’s the best way to get a natural expression from my girls.

What’s your favorite part about shooting boudoir?

My client’s reaction to her photos – HANDS DOWN.

What does your studio look like?

Boho, shabby chic girly studio apartment. I have a claw foot tub that I move outside onto my shaded patio, tons of pillows, lots of light. I have several pieces of furniture, including a round chaise lounger. Mirrors and chiffon and candles … it’s all very romantic and girly and sexy.

What products do you sell the most?

My 8×8, 24 image Little Black Book is my biggest seller. I also offer 2×3 accordion albums for husbands or boyfriends that travel.

Do you shoot couples?

Oddly enough, I am taking some courses about the specifics of shooting couples right now. I have a some previous clients who are very intrigued by the idea. I had said in the past that I would NEVER shoot couples, but like they say: “Never say never, lol!”

Who inspired you?

Like anyone who shoots primarily women, Sue Bryce is my hero … while she doesn’t shoot boudoir, per se, her business model is something I think all female photographers aspire to. Jen Rozenbaum is another of my idols. she’s very cool and down to earth and takes incredible boudoir photos.
