No matter how old you are, your body type or your style, you have every right to indulge in boudoir photography. It’s a great pick-me-up and reminder of your beauty and strength. Nothing boosts your spirit more than gorgeous images of yourself!
It’s Life Changing
If it’s something you’ve never done before, be prepared: you’ll become hooked! It’s so much fun, from the moment you start pampering yourself until the day you see your final photos, it’s one great little surprise after another!
You’ll Appreciate It
Boudoir encourages women to love themselves for who they truly are. It’s a great way to embrace your flaws and love the skin you’re in!
Pictures As a Reminder
You’ll have quality images that last for years. This way, you can always look back and reminisce about that season of life and how much fun you had!
Outfits and Lingerie
Who doesn’t love to shop? Boudoir is a great excuse to buy lingerie that makes you blush! There’s something out there for every woman!
Boudoir is classic, beautiful, and timeless. Every woman is unique. No matter what skin color, body size, age or lifestyle, you deserve to be dolled up and captured on camera.
When another woman sees you doing boudoir, they become inspired. It’s all about lifting each other up and accepting our beautiful bodies. We shouldn’t compete against each other, but instead, encourage one another to do the dang thing. Every woman has their own story. When women come together, powerful things happen.

Outdoor boudoir – is there anything more beautiful? Although Ms S looked comfortable, she is mama to four gorgeous kids and this was her first time in front of a camera. She is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Thank you, Ms S for trusting me and letting yourself to be vulnerable out there in the great wide open
Now that Mother Nature is back on her meds, I’m hoping to get some more outdoor boudoir sessions in this summer. It’s the perfect time of year. I have the perfect spots and every piece of wardrobe and shoes we’ll need. No nakey, all sexy and just for YOU.
$150 ($50 extra for hair), 15 4×6 prints, custom DVD with all chosen images and a print release. And lunch!

Have you ever looked at a magazine and thought “God, I’d love to look like that!” You’re in luck, my HMUA – hair and makeup stylist – can make it happen.
While you can get away without it, a hair and makeup styling is a must for a boudoir session. You want to look your absolute most beautiful and HMUAs know all the tricks to make you look like yourself, with a ton of oomph. HMUAs do your hair, give you smoky eyes and thick fringe-y lashes and a silky, sexy pout. You’ll love what you see in the mirror and your SO will have their socks knocked off.
When I first met Prudence, I liked her immediately, but I had no idea just how important she’d become to me, professionally AND personally. She has brought my photography and my work to another whole level. Although I am a hairdresser myself, I concentrated on nails and was NEVER good at hair and make-up. Prudence has lifted the worries I had before and during a session.
Prudence is also opening a salon locally very soon, as well as being the premiere stylist at JLReis Photography, so we sat down and talked about some of the important questions that we thought y’all might want to know!
What made you want to get into the Hair and Makeup industry?
I LOVE all aspects of art; growing up, I was a very creative child. I grew up in a family of believers and listeners and givers. When one of my other goals in life was not going to work, my Uncle (HMUA), said to me “Why not give to the world what you were given?” … the ability to see beauty in others even if they didn’t see it themselves. So I combined my passion of art/design and compassion of helping others and went to school for barber/cosmetology. Later in life I went on to get my instructor’s license to help others achieve their HMUA goals as well.
What’s your favorite part about doing Hair and Makeup for Boudoir/Glamour Sessions?
The transformation of it all from the minute you walk through the door: the outfits, your expectations, your fears, your laughter, the moment you look in the mirror, when it all comes together and you strut out the door like you own it.
What can clients expect from you when they hire you to do their hair and makeup?
That they can trust me with everything, I listen …
How would you describe your style?
How would you describe me? 😉 Hmmm … “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak ~ Rachel Zoe” Okay, sometimes look like a hurricane ☺ but I’m having a whole lot of fun
What makes you stand out in the HMUA industry?
I LISTEN, it’s not about me but you ☺
Where can you see hair and makeup trends go over the next few years
Everything repeats itself, but I can see simple and classic (it never goes out of style) But to each their own
What’s your favorite part of a Boudoir/Glamour Session?
All of it, but when the pictures come out and you and all of your friends and family go WOW! The glow in your face!
Other than Boudoir/Glamour Sessions, what else do you do hair and makeup for?
I love traveling for weddings! I’m the open minded stylist/ friend listening and helping you
What’s in your makeup bag?
A little of everything … remember, I’m just like you
What do you like to do on your weekends?
Now if I tell you everything about me what fun would that be 😉
Is there anything else that you want people to know about you?
I am here to help, even with the little things that you may have forgotten about yourself. Mixed in with some sass, class and maybe some crazy fun! But most importantly I LISTEN to what you need. I believe in kindness, I believe in helping others with no questions asked, I see the good in everyone first, I believe in good wholesome conversations. I believed in myself for 48 years when no one else did, beside a few close family and friends. I give my worth away to prove myself over and over again. I never accept a compliment cause its not about me it’s about helping. I believe I am smart enough to survive anything. That’s been my whole life and being.
The experience was great. She was amazing to work with and has a great personality. […] But seriously 9.5/10 ~ Amber C
I have loved working with Pru! I’ve gone from no makeup, to LOTS of makeup! […] As to hair, if anyone can take this wavy, curly rats nest and make it look fantastic, she does. That’s a brave and experienced person right there! ~ Emily P
She’s amazing she does great work I’m even having her do my hair and my daughter’s hair for my wedding vow renewal. She cut my son’s hair the other day amazing job he is very very happy with it. I would recommend her to anybody. ~ Becky M
Prudence Walker did my hair and I have a lot of hair to deal with I told her that I wanted blonde highlights and my hair layered and thinned […] lo and behold the finished product was completely amazing my head felt lighter, the style was amazing and I’ve never had more compliments on the color in my hair… I would highly recommend her to anybody […] ~ Lori K
She is Fantastic!! ~ Melissa V
Prudence Walker is amazing with hair…she moved away on me and i used to have the cutest short hair styles and colors but since she moved away i have let it grow because i cant find anyone to cut or color it the way she used to. ~ Vickie J
I absolutely love Pru!! SHE does amazing hair! I drive 2 hours just to get my hair done by Pru ~ Jennifer B
If you choose to do your own hair and make-up for your session:
Please arrive at the studio with your hair and makeup already done. We do have hairspray and curling irons if you need to fluff up the curls etc. We want to have enough time to pick out your outfits and more time to shoot 🙂
We highly recommend that you wear a foundation even if you don’t normally wear it; it really makes the skin look flawless and silky smooth in photographs. Please wear a moisturizer under your foundation
Bring some of your makeup with you so that you can touch it or a different color lipstick to change up the look for your second set
We recommend starting with a more nude or natural lipstick and then progressing to darker lipstick as we transition into your second or third set
False eyelashes are HIGHLY recommended for your shoot. If Pru isn’t doing your make-up, make sure you’ve applied them before you get here. You can buy nice lashes from WalMart or Sally’s – and don’t forget the glue! I personally recommend the tube withthe liner instead of “squooshy: glue 🙂
There are quite a few tutorials here in one place right here (I love the eyeshadow in the first video!)

Every one of the ladies in this post hold a place near and dear to my heart. The very first (and a couple of the others) are my very best friend and one of the most beautiful women I know. Whenever her photos grace my blog or FB feed, they blow up with comments. The photo up top is the photo that started it all. MsP needed a photo for a calendar. We had a half an hour. I took one shot and this was the photo that went in the calendar. This photo led to the opportunity to work with a local business and shoot their calendar for the next four years. One of the ladies is a very talented make-up artist, another is my tattoo girl and one of them is a community minded business owner.
And I love every one of them.
So … do you (or your SO) have a bike that you want to include in your session? It’s pretty easy to do. Just ride it over and we’ll roll!

How do you see yourself? Studio Rep Elizabeth says:
[pullquote width=”100%” float=”left”]”Hey everybody, I have to say I was extremely nervous and excited to see the finished personal portraits from my photo shoot. I so desperately wanted to see how I truly felt inside in a picture. What I did see was so much more than that. I saw my beauty and the smile that my husband always talks about.[/pullquote]
[pullquote width=”100%” float=”left”]You always think people say things because they are supposed to but I learned that it was genuine. When I saw the picture in the white dress I cried, that’s how I knew what I set out to do was a success. The surgery helped me get smaller, but it was confidence in myself that helped me realize who I am. I’m so glad I took this chance and am more than ecstatic to see what the future shoots bring ❤❤ thank you Jackee.[/pullquote]
How do you see yourself? Who is that person inside you? Is the person inside you who you see when you see a photo of yourself? Are you pleasantly surprised? Would you like to be? Personal portraits aren’t only for the people you love, they are for you, someone you should love because if you love yourself, you can better love others.
Body image … what a powerful concept. Our generation, our daughters’ generation, has been bombarded for 40+ years about “body image”, yet I don’t think any of us know what it is, how important it is to our self esteem, how our view of our own bodies – OURSELVES – affects how our daughters see themselves.
Sometimes it’s not even what we see in the mirror, but what another says to us or about us that shapes our feelings. Even if we are truly beautiful (and really, we all are beautiful in some way) a word or sentence or even a look from our past can makes us shudder with the memory and blur the beauty that stares us in the face every day.
No one – not the cutest cheerleader, not Miss Wisconsin, not you, not me – are happy with what we see in the mirror
Change Your View
Every day, look in the mirror and comment on ONE thing you like about yourself. “Wow, I LOVE the color of my eyes.” “I have a great complexion.” “my posture is fantastic.” The more we compliment ourselves, the more self-esteem we gain and the more that nasty little voice i the back of our mind starts zipping it’s shitty little lip.
Perceptions are amazing. In this day and age of “politically correct” thinking and the public’s outcry of “I am NOT judgemental!” I’ve found that people in general are more judgemental and women are MOST judgemental of themselves.
This first full session with Studio Rep Emily got us talking about first impressions, other peoples’ opinions and how we judge ourselves.
On any given day other people see us as we are THAT day, whether we are dressed for work, dressed for gardening or dressed for a quick run to the gas station for a gallon of milk at six o’clock in the morning. Anyone who sees us bases an opinion on us, whether they know us or not. I tell myself that it doesn’t matter, people who know me know that I don’t always look that way, but REALLY? Somewhere inside me I think everyone is stink eyeing me. Do you do the same thing?
The saying that you never get a chance to make a first impression isn’t as true as what we’ve been lead to believe, at least in a personal way, and never judge a book by its over has never been more true. We can recreate ourselves EVERY day. We can put ourselves out to the world and tell our story a day at a time.
MsS is one of my original studio reps. A break in her school year has made her available for Rep sessions again. Hurray!!!
We first shot together last year at a local waterfall, some of you might remember her beautiful images.
Like many studios, I provide wardrobe because I LOVE to buy beautiful clothes!!!! The outfits that MsS is wearing in the session were put together by us in-studio, but you can bring ANY of your own clothing or lingerie. Love the dress you wore for your daughter’s wedding? Bring it. Have the negligee from your wedding night? Bring it. It’s up to you, but if you’re truly at a loss, I can even shoot you in nothing but a white sheet!!! One of my favorite pieces is a tulle skirt, paired with a totally different top, like the rosy beige sweater MsS is wearing.
I have three sweet and sexy tulle skirts, half a dozen bustiers, a fur stole and lingerie GALORE. I have a dozen different dresses in many different sizes and shoes? Do I have shoes? You know I do!
You can show as little or as much as you like, you never have to be naked to be sexy.
A month ago I started a Studio Ambassador program to find reps that would feature the beauty of all women, no matter their age, shape or size. Elizabeth and Emily were the first two to show interest in being reps and never they never wavered in wanting an opportunity. After reading their applications, I knew they were definitely in the running.
The day before I chose, I unexpectedly lost three of the five candidates. It really threw me for a loop and to tell the truth? I was very discouraged to be left with only two reps. But despite my disappointment, I set up the initial meeting with the ladies and hoped for the best.
I don’t think it could’ve turned out any better. Elizabeth was the first to arrive, and as we chatted while we waited for Emily, I realized that if things HADN’T happened the way they did I may not have had this phenomenal young lady in front of my camera. Shortly after Emily arrived and the three of got acquainted, I knew in my heart that the BOTH of them were meant to be studio reps for JLReis Photography. They UNDERSTAND the message that I am trying to spread – that all women are beautiful, that all women deserve to have reminders of that beauty.
In the next week I will be sharing Emily and Elizabeth’s stories in further detail, as we have our first formal sessions.
The Facebook VIP Boudoir/Glamour Group is a private Facebook group to show behind the scenes of my boudoir sessions, and to give those who are curious an idea of what they can expect during a boudoir/glamour session with JLReis Photography. I welcome any questions, concerns or comment in this group. I am here to educate you about Glamour/Boudoir Photography.
Glamour and Boudoir photography is about more than dressing up or taking it off. It’s not about sexuality.
Beauty… it’s the light that shines out of people’s eyes when they look at you… when you hold their gaze, and then everything else falls away… you see their true self and it’s just staring back at you, and it’s magnificent… and everybody has it.
